Analysts at the Moscow Department of Information Technology went through job ads for programmers and counted which technologies employers mention most. The top five are Git, APIs, JavaScript, PostgreSQL and Docker.
The list is telling: together these tools cover the whole life of a product, from teamwork on code and connecting services to storing data and shipping the finished app to a server.
Why these five
Git keeps the change history and lets several people work on one repository without stepping on each other. Designing and wiring up APIs is what lets services exchange data. JavaScript is still the main language of the web, PostgreSQL stores the data, and Docker makes deployment behave the same on any machine.
The department notes that hiring is shifting from volume to precision: there are fewer openings, but demand for specific skills holds steady.
Most wanted roles
1C programmer remains the most common role, with an average of 634 openings in Moscow in the first half of 2026. Next come Python (259), C++ (203), backend (197) and frontend (168). About 48% of the offers come from the IT sector itself, with most of the rest in finance and retail.
Our take
For anyone building websites and bots, this list mirrors everyday work: code in Git, data in PostgreSQL, integrations over APIs, deployment in containers. If you are deciding what to brush up on first, it is a solid guide, and understanding how the pieces fit together matters more than mastering any single tool. More in the CNews article.
